Today I read about managing difficult people. It’s the most challenges task in the world. The first barrier a new manager must face. The book mentions about some subordinate who thinks he/she is above anyone, not a team player, brings the problem to the people way above your reporting structure without discussing with you, who do not resolve conflict internally or within a team.
For this type of people who wants to take control and take charge of everything, who doesn’t trust even her team mates and worse, her superior, you may want to assign her a more independent responsibility. Let her take up a project on her own and try to isolate her work from your team. In that way, she will not be able to propagate her problem to the team, which may bring down the morale in the whole team. She will handle on her own, take control of everything and of course, be responsible for everything.
This kind of people have a strength to set things right by their own. They don’t trust people and is usually not a good team player. They usually have strong will and is able to take up challenges. You must be able to empower him/her in such a way that she will do the work on her own, yet is working for your project.
