A lot of times I have stressed that people should NOT drive on the rightmost lane if they are driving slowly.
Why?
Firstly I shall ask the people who drive slowly on the rightmost lane. Do you have a very strong reason to do so? You think that you have the right to drive slowly on the right lane? You think it's a pleasure to drive carefree on the right lane? Do you even call these reasons?
People who are in emergency needs this rightmost lane. Wife giving labour. People with injuries and in an emergency situation. Aging people who needs to see doctor urgently. People missing appointments due to unforeseen traffic congestion. They need this right lane the most. Don't you think these are more acceptable reasons?
Well you might not know if the drivers behind you are in emergency situation. What if they are?
What are the consequences if you drive on the left lane when you're not in emergency? NONE.
What are the consequences if you drive on the right lane and block the drivers who are in emergency. Wife may not labour properly. People losing jobs because of missing appointments. It may also cause life if the injured person is not sent to hospital in time!
So the next time you drive slowly on the rightmost lane and notice there's a line of car behind you. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE. BE HUMANE. Drive to the left lane.
I got inspired by a letter written-in to the Star by a gwai-low who has called Malaysia second home. In the letter he was very angry about our driving etiquette and call us "Ugly Malaysians". I don't blame him but agree with him. The are so many uncivilized people living among us.
